Blue by nature, green at heart

100% recycled paper

At BAC we aim to make all our processes as environmentally friendly as possible. This time the Communications Department brought a sustainable change to our attention. Our product overview brochure was in need of a make-over. Not only did the lay-out change, but we now print this brochure on 100% recycled paper! By selecting Cocoon Gloss for the printing of this brochure in 13 languages our environmental impact was greatly reduced, compared to non-recycled paper.

Our BAC internal personnel magazine from the BAC Belgium employees (BAC SamenGevat) is also printed on 100% recycled paper (Cyclus Offset) from now on. This too contributes to reducing our environmental footprint.

Nice to notice:
In the image you can see a well-know panda logo. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) supports the paper producer in the promotion of a circular economy of paper.

We celebrated WED all over the world!

On June 5th BAC employees worldwide celebrated World Environment Day with lots of different activities. We cleaned up river banks, we crafted with re-used plastics, we took to the streets to inform people, we ran obstacle courses and we rode to work on our bikes. A great job by all organizers in all the entities! The results of all these efforts goes to Just a Drop, and the 3 projects we support in Kenya, Nicaragua and India.

It’s almost World Environment Day!

JustaDropBanner_general_outlined_smallWorld Environment takes place every year on June 5th. That day we engage ourselves to raise awareness for environmental issues and encourage positive environmental action.

This year the results of all our efforts will go to
Just a Drop, and more specifically to the 3 projects we support in Kenya, Nicaragua and India.
Our donations will provide local communities access to sustainable safe water solutions.

BAC employees world wide will be taking action: introducing re-usable water bottles in the work place,
re-using plastic via hand-crafts, cleaning rubbish from river banks or coming to work on your bike or on foot instead of with your car. Join us!

BAC raises money for diabetes awareness

It is estimated that by 2030 in Belgium alone 1 in 10 people will have diabetes, that’s over 1 million people. Through participating in the Climbing for Life-weekend BAC helps to raise awareness for diabetes. The subscription fees were paid by BAC and early September 76 colleagues and partners from Belgium, Italy, Australia, China and the US took part in the Climbing for Life event held in the town of Gérardmer, located in the Vosges (France).

Together with over 3000 people nearly 95.000 euro was raised for diabetes by walking, running and biking across the “Balloons and Trails” of this mountain range. Those who participated were unanimous: “A wonderful weekend of sportive achievements and collegial togetherness. Not even the rainy weather could put a damper on it!”

This initiative fits well with BAC’s commitment to create a caring and safe environment for our people and our communities; which is one of our five sustainability goals.

And our commitment reached further than the Climbing for Life-weekend. Over the summer BAC employees organized various actions (a carwash, a bake sale, a salsa-workshop, a spinning class,…) to raise money for Kampka-D.

This non-profit organization offers summer camps to children with diabetes. The raised sum was doubled by BAC management and Don Fetzer (BAC president) along with David Jacobs (Managing Director EMEA) handed over the cheque to the Kampka-D representatives.

Have a nice World Environment Day!

World Environment Day takes place every year on June 5th. It’s an initiative by the United Nations aimed to raise awareness for environmental issues and encourage positive environmental action. At BAC, we celebrate this on Friday June 2nd. On this day employees around the globe take part in various environmental activities (cycling to work, cleaning up the local surroundings, learning about eco-friendly actions,…).

We want to engage every employee in a fun and original way so we can all be a part of BAC’s commitment: “Reduce our global energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions with 20% by 2020.* Let’s do it together!

Cleaning up!

To litter (verb): make a place untidy with rubbish or a large number of objects left lying about.

Unfortunately this is something we encounter around the edges of our company grounds in Heist-op-den-Berg, Belgium: cigarette stubs, gum, food wrappers, cans, bottles,…  In 2016 IOK Afvalbeheer (a governmental agency that regulates the waste treatment for 29 local municipalities in the area) initiated a clean-up-the-litter action. BAC liked this idea and – being the only company in the Heist industry zone to take part – send out its Green Team to take to the street with gloves and garbage bags to clean it all up.

On April 27th the second edition of this clean-up-action took place. This time some more companies in the local area joined the effort. They could come to the BAC reception to pick up there clean-up-packages, as we had been requested by IOK to take the lead here. The weather was not on our side that day, but the Green Team were not deterred and made once again sure that the BAC domain was litter-free!
